Using SynDiary
Everyday guides for working with SynDiary once you're set up.
The timeline
Section titled “The timeline”The timeline is your home screen. Every entry you've added is grouped under date headers, so you can scroll back through your life in order. Each row shows a small icon for the entry's type, a headline, a short teaser of the content, and a meta line with the date, time, and type.
A search field with filter controls sits above the list, so you can narrow the timeline down to what you're looking for. Pull down to refresh the list. Tap any row to open the entry's detail page, where you'll find a photo carousel if the entry has images, a revision history of your edits, and a metadata sheet with the entry's underlying details.
Adding entries
Section titled “Adding entries”Tap the + button in the center of the bottom navigation to open the new-entry sheet. It offers eight entry types:
- Basic entry: a free-form note for anything that doesn't fit a more specific type.
- Event: something that happened, tied to a date and time.
- Person: details about someone in your life.
- Organization: a company, group, or institution.
- Media: photos or video you want to keep.
- Audio: a voice note or recording.
- Social Media: a post or memory from a social platform.
- Place: a location worth remembering.
For voice notes, SynDiary uses its built-in audio recorder, which asks for microphone access the first time you use it. Recordings are transcribed on your device by default, so nothing needs to leave your phone for a transcript to appear.
AI chat
Section titled “AI chat”The AI Chat tab lets you talk with an assistant about your data. By default this runs entirely on your device, and your questions and personal context stay local. If you'd rather use a cloud AI provider, that's optional and off by default; see Privacy, security & permissions for what changes when you turn it on.
Reports
Section titled “Reports”The Reports tab summarizes your data at a glance. Horizontally scrolling stat cards show your recent activity, and a list of report rows opens into detailed chart pages when you tap into them.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”Settings groups its options under section headers, covering things like AI, privacy, and general preferences. Two are worth knowing about early: an Advanced mode switch that changes which options are visible elsewhere in the app, and an analytics switch, which is off by default. Turning analytics on records anonymized usage counts, never your content, and in the current version those events stay on your device; see Privacy, security & permissions for details.
