SynDiary is a local-first personal data store: one private place for the data your life produces, from notes and events to people, places, media, and imports from other platforms. There's no account and no registration. Everything lives in an encrypted database on your device, and the company behind SynDiary runs no server that receives your data. Nobody but you can read it.

The first time you open SynDiary, a short set of intro slides gives you a quick sense of what the app does. After that, you'll go through storage setup, where SynDiary creates the encrypted database that holds everything you write.

If your encrypted storage uses a recovery code, storage setup is where you'll get it. Keep it somewhere safe, like a password manager or another secure place you won't lose. Your data is encrypted on your device and never sent anywhere, so that code is the only way back in if you're ever locked out. Without it, nobody can recover that data, not even the SynDiary team.

Finding your way around

SynDiary's main screen has four tabs along the bottom, with a central button for adding new entries:

  • Timeline: your entries, grouped by date.
  • Reports: stats and charts drawn from what you've logged.
  • + (center): start a new entry, of any type.
  • AI Chat: talk with an assistant about your data.
  • Settings: configure the app, including AI, privacy, and advanced options.
